How Does a CNG Cascade Work?
A CNG cascade works on a three-stage pressure banking system to maximize gas utilization and minimize compression costs:
- Low Pressure Bank: Gas is stored at lower pressure and is used first to fill vehicle tanks rapidly.
- Medium Pressure Bank: As vehicle pressure rises, the system automatically switches to the medium-pressure bank.
- High Pressure Bank: Final top-up from the high-pressure bank until the vehicle tank reaches the required 200 bar pressure.
- Compressor Refill: Once banks are depleted, the compressor refills them in sequence for the next refueling cycle.
This cascade system ensures maximum gas utilization, reduces compressor running time, and extends the life of station equipment.
